As of today, the library campaign has received pledges of $108,208. Of that $74,836 has already been collected. That's a good way toward our near term goal of $200,000 to close on the land chosen for the new library site on Center Street in Douglas. Thanks, campaign cabinet, for the job you're doing!
The Saugatuck Douglas Art Club has given a major donation to the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library’s capital campaign. The Board and membership have voted to donate $15,000 to the Library for its campaign Our Focus – Our Center – Our Future, which aims to raise funds to build the first purpose-built library facility in the history of our community. The gift is in honor of the Art Club’s 60th anniversary, which will take place in September. The gift will be used to help sponsor the Art Library Collection and Display Area in the new building, planned for Center Street in Douglas.
The Art Club and the Library have had a very long standing relationship. The Art Club has donated artworks, items for the collection, and funds to support Library programs over the years. The Library annually supports an award at the Art Club’s Waterfront Invitational Art Fair. Karen Drongowski, the president of the Saugatuck Douglas Art Club, said “What better way for us to show our strong partnership with the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library, than to give our heartfelt support monetarily to continue the education of future generations, and to help provide a community gathering spot for us all." Martha Boetcher, the director of the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library, said, “Partnerships with arts and cultural institutions bring out the best for community members. Sharing like this is what makes our area noteworthy. The Art Club's incredible donation is a great boost to our fundraising. Thank you.”
